989 Sports starts off their PSP basketball titles with the simply named NBA. With all 30 NBA teams, two conference all-star teams, Team USA, and six NBDL teams full of fictional characters, the game features a team for everyone. NBA includes the standard game play modes like quick play and season mode. Season mode, the main feature, puts players in control of a team in season and, if their team does well enough, the play-offs. The game gives players the option of playing or simulating games, checking standings or injuries, and trading players to other teams. The game also includes three mini-games: a three-point contest, a skills challenge, and a special paint mode. The skills challenge has players working through a number of obstacle courses while achieving specified goals. The paint mode, which can be played against another player via Wi-Fi, has players claiming sections of the court by making shots from each section. The last player to make a shot from a square gets that square, and when time runs out, the player with the most squares wins. 989 Sports has added a new shooting mechanism to the game as well. Instead of a bar, players tap one button to jump. A colored halo appears around the ball, and when the halo turns green, players tap a button again to sink the ball. PSP
