Tecmo’s TOKOBOT for the PSP puts players at the head of a robotic army. TOKOBOT is part platformer, part action, and part puzzle game that will require players to master all of the TOKOBOTS’ special abilities. TOKOBOT takes place in the world of Moritai, where a great civilization once flourished. Long forgotten, the legacy of this ancient civilization is revealed with Bolt, a young explorer, stumbles upon the TOKOBOTS. Accidentally awakening them, he becomes their master because he is the first thing they see. This leads Bolt to be given more dangerous assignments by his mentor, Dr. Canewood, and eventually takes him on an adventure that will determine the fate of Moritai itself. The game’s levels are set up as assignments from Dr. Canewood that generally involve exploring some ancient ruins. Once in the ruins, the TOKOBOTS can perform a large variety of actions that players will have to master in order to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. Bolt can throw them at foes, use them to climb to near areas and jump higher, or have them merge together into a larger robot to defeat bosses. Some of these actions require Bolt to find ancient karakuri parts to modify the TOKOBOTS with. TOKOBOTS is a unique combination of squad games, puzzle games,
and RPGs. Gamers looking for something different will find the game a lot of fun, as will gamers who enjoy some of the more offbeat titles.
